The Laing Cashmere Process

Why we limit production to 50–150 pieces per style — and why that matters for quality, sustainability, and you.

Small batch production isn't a marketing claim at Laing — it's a deliberate decision that shapes everything about how our garments are made. When you produce 150 pieces instead of 15,000, the relationship between maker and material changes fundamentally.

We work with specialist cashmere producers — not generalist knitwear factories — who understand the particular demands of the fibre. At this scale, our production partners can inspect each piece individually, refine details mid-run, and maintain a consistency that volume manufacturing simply cannot replicate. Quality isn't checked at the end of the process. It is present throughout it.

Small batch production also means we make only what is needed. No overstock, no excess, no garments destined to be discounted before they've been worn. For a fibre as considered as cashmere, that feels like the only honest way to work.

Protecting the environment

Naturally Good

Beyond quality, small batches reshape our environmental footprint. We produce what we can sell, not what warehouses can hold. There's no surplus destined for landfills, no excess inventory pressure-discounted to move volume. The pieces we make are made with purpose, not speculation. When a style doesn't resonate as anticipated, our sale section offers those pieces to a wider audience rather than contributing to textile waste.
