Blending the statement-making with the understated is how Sharon Orquejo, creative director of W By Working Style curates her wardrobe. As the creator of bespoke tailoring for the discerning client, Sharon's aesthetic is an ode to quality, comfort and individuality. We spoke with Sharon below about seasonless dressing and the power of versatility.
Tell us about W by Working Style - how did the idea to break into womenswear at Working Style come about and what's been exciting about this process thus far?
Working Style have been NZ's leading menswear brand for 34 years and well known for their immaculate suiting. Working with Working Style for over 15 years, I've taken my years of expertise and knowledge of suiting to introduce a new range for women. We knew for some time that there was a gap in women's Made to Measure Suiting. I had a strong vision for what was needed, making W by Working style, an outstanding womenswear offering that also stayed true to the brand.
Experience is key. When you enter the world of W, its all about you. A truly unique proposition in New Zealand, you can make an appointment to meet with one of our W tailors and play a key role in creating their perfect wardrobe. We give them the tools and power to create bespoke garments with our help.
How would you describe your aesthetic of W by Working Style - who are the ladies your dressing?
We pride ourselves on offering timeless, yet contemporary tailoring that can be worn to any occasion. Our core aesthetic is based on versatile colour palettes and classic fits, which will last you many seasons to come. We are lucky to be able to dress a variety of successful and inspiring women, whether it’s corporate wear, special events or a smart casual look for everyday.
How would you describe your own personal style? What is the key to a successful outfit?
My personal style is classic with a modern twist. I enjoy choosing statement wardrobe pieces and pairing it with a simple trouser or jacket.
The key to a successful outfit is one that best suits your personality and something that you feel comfortable wearing. It is also important to choose the right fabric and style to suit your needs.
Which piece are you coveting from Laing's new Autumn /Winter collection?
I have chosen pieces from Laing for our Autumn/Winter range, where our women can softly wear under their tailored pieces easily dress down and wear with their jeans. We will be stocking the style Sam and Amy in several colours and Quinten.
How will you be wearing/styling this piece as we head into the cooler months? What will you be wearing it with?
I am excited to wear some of the pieces with my Khaki Green DB suit or my Prince of Wales blazer with light blue jeans. For a less tailored look, layer Quinten under a silk blouse. I look forward in guiding our clients in how to soften their look with these pieces.
What do you admire most about Laing as a brand?
Most of our clients admire luxurious fabrics. We are lucky enough to work closely with Laing as a premium brand. Anna is a delight to deal with and her passion and love with cashmere is outstanding.
