Zeenat Wilkinson showed true entrepreneurial spirit and a whole lot of grit when she founded and self-funded Sauce, an online community that celebrates the diversity of women and real-life beauty. She also happens to be a lover of our pyjamas. Here Zeenat shares with us her sleep style and self-care rituals.
I am one of those annoying slash-y people. Fashion Stylist, Editor and Freelance Project Manager/Producer.
Morning person or night owl?
Both. I am very passionate about my morning coffee and breakfast, but I get all my creative work done at night.
What do you remember about your bedtime ritual as a child?
Oh my! I really don’t. Is that a bad thing?
What’s your bedtime ritual right now?
I have bad weeks and good weeks. But when I am feeling good, I put on my favourite Laing Home pjs, allow myself to enjoy a couple of hours in bed with a good book and a ginger tea, burning my favourite Jo Malone London candle. Hair serum, hand cream and lip balm just before I go to sleep.
The one thing I ALWAYS do for myself is look after my skin; triple cleanse and pump it with hydration before going to bed every night.
What was the last dream you can recall?
Oh yes. I remember this one. My husband came home with a suitcase full of crystals and I was very confused. Very random. I don’t think my dreams ever make any sense, but they are always very entertaining and dramatic. I actually wake up tired sometimes from all the dreaming!
Describe your bedroom style?
My bedroom is currently work-in-progress. But, my “dream bedroom” would be something a bit eccentric with a French colonial twist. Perhaps even something inspired by the Charleston House by the Bloomsbury Group. Lots of print, texture and textile. Nothing minimal and plain.
Duvets or blankets?
Duvet with a bed cover.
What is always on your bedside table?
Lots of books. I currently have five books on it. Along with my glasses, Jo Malone London candle in English Pear & Freesia, Aēsop hand cream and silk eye mask.
If you could be a character from a book, who would you be?
This is mildly embarrassing, but I read Sophie Kinsella’s Sophophic Series when I was in my late teens and I could 100% relate to the character of Rebecca Bloomwood. But, I can also really relate to Dolly Alderton in her book “Everything I know About Love”.
Journal or electronic diary?
Journal or my brain
I LOVE the Sufi Poet Rumi. I live by his words “Only from the heart can you touch the sky.”
Favourite morning ritual?
Coffee in bed with cute pjs on.
Favourite way to relax after work?
Watch an old Hollywood movie. I have a collection of Audrey Hepburn movies that I pull out and watch when I am alone and want to relax.
How do you treat yourself?
A massage or facial at Haven Spa Takapuna. It’s the best place in Auckland, according to me.
What does luxury mean to you?
Luxury means comfort.
Complete this sentence: I couldn’t function without…
What hashtag would you give your weekend mornings?
Where is your happy place?
Yoga at Rise Studio. I feel so blissful there.
But also, drinking chai at my family home in Mumbai, looking at the monsoon rain and the ocean from our window.
What do you wear to travel in?
I like to wear soft comfortable like jeans and a hoodie/jumper. I am funny about germs in flight and at the airport, so I wear something I can immediately get out of soon as I land.
Hong Kong, London and Spain.
